This morning, as I drove into the city for my early Sat meeting, I went passed a blood curdling accident on the opposite side of the interstate. It was clear several people had died. The cars were flatened, burned, and pieces were strewn about as if they had been chewed up and spat out. It was incredibly unsettling. I thought of how it would be for those families to get a phone call saying their loved one was not coming home. And it made me want to turn around and go see my wife and kids. But, the reality is, they are far more likely to get such a call if I were to not to continue on to my meeting.
Sometimes it's hard to keep this perspective in mind. But as the old example goes, when you are in an airplane falling from the sky, and the oxygen masks deploy, you must first take a deep breath yourself. Before you are able to help anyone else.
Just breath...
