I am really trying this time but...
Hello,
my name is Kevin Lambe
I live in Belfast, Co.down, Northern Ireland
I am principal of a school in Nea nearby town which I shouldn't name in case a student reads this.
It took me years to realise i had a problem, and now I am really trying to solve it.
I have a young family and drink led me to having an affair with my vice principal and losing many friends, including some members of my own staff.
My wife doesn't know i am struggling to beat it and just thinks I am working late often/
I feel so awful about lying... I just dont know what to do
any advice would be greatly appreciated... especially anyone who is a principal or other educational figure in my position.
Thank-you

Hi Kevin
Glad you found this site.
Until you are ready to admit that there is a problem and that you could use some help with your addiction things will only get worse. I speak from alot of experience with my own addiction to alcohol.
Getting honest with yourself right now is a priority.
addiction has no boundaries and it affects every facet of our society.
here are two web sites for your local AA support group.
http://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org.uk/
http://www.4ni.co.uk/fulllisting.asp...yle=0&level1=8
Check out our boards and read what others have experienced and you will find that you are not alone or unique.
Keep posting.

Kevin, welcome to SR.
Of coiurse, I'd say "get thee to an AA meeting! I can't say enough for the program.
In case you say, "I can't go to AA, I might be recognized,' there are many options. ONe of which are online AA meetings. Another is an outfit called SMART.... go up to the AA forum and ask Don S if you're interested.
Regardless of what you do towards recovery, please do it. This disease will take everything from you, including your life.
