" . . . the certainty that we are no longer isolated
in self-constructed prisons,
the surety that we need no longer be
square pegs in round holes
but can fit and belong in God's scheme of things -
these are the permanent and legitimate satisfactions of
right living for which no amount of pomp and
circumstance,
no heap of material possessions,
could possibly be substitutes.
True ambition is not what we thought it was.
True ambition is the deep desire
to live usefully and walk humbly under
the grace of God."

"the surety that we need no longer be square pegs in round holes" I tried very hard to fit inside this world. The right schools, a part of the team, the right friends, having the right car, clothes, character driven by who I was around...and I just felt like I was not alright, I wasn't in the right spot. Until I found alcohol and it did not matter how I felt because I used it to ease the discomfort of not feeling like I really belonged. Alcohol did something for me and I used it until alcohol started doing something to me! The steps and the smashing of my pride have allowed me to move freely in this world and that is beyond price. I no longer feel as though I do not fit in I have a role to play every day and God is good like that. God has helped me see that I do indeed have a purpose here and that is in the fellowship of AA and to practice the principles in all my affairs. Really a new freedom and a new happiness that alllows me to move in this world knowing I am accepted just as I am and loved more than I know!
