Intergroup phones
I finally signed up for a 2 hour block last night. Only recieved 4 calls (one of which was someone calling to cancel!), but there was one very drunk man who called looking for recovery centers in his area. I gave him a few numbers for detox/recovery centers(one of them is very highly reccomended). He talked about how he had been trying for weeks to quit on his own, but became too ill from withdrawals and thought medical intervention would be best. Great moment of clarity on his part! I hope he did arrange to go to one of these places. Just wanted to share that experience, and how grateful I am today to be able to help others recover from alcoholism.
Good job on helping out at Intergroup.
When I first started volunteering to answer the hotline, I was told that in general we don't make recommendations of treatment facilities in accordance with the sixth tradition. I didn't really grasp why at first (having come into sobriety through a rehab), but it was a great opportunity to start to study and gain a greater personal understanding of the traditions.
