Special Holiday Meetings ... anyone else go to these?

Hi -

We have a traditional Midnight Christmas Eve Meeting here in Butte.

It's a candlelight meeting,
almost always a gratitude meeting
(although last year I'mn told it was a first step)
and sorta like Easter in Church

you tend to see people attending you might not get to see very often.
Either their meeting schedule (or mine) has changed,
or they're not coming to as many meetings as before
-or *I* am not going as often

remember last year?
I couldn't sit up long enough to attend a meeting
man I was so very sick
I did not expect to live to see the spring.
Had I not changed docs, and had SHE not changed themed I was taking -
I may well would NOT have made it to this meeting.
THis Solstice.

AND
because of thoughts like that
I'll be attending the meeting.
Then on Christmas day
my friend is having another Native American Meeting/Gathering
the Thanksgiving/Harvest dinner celebration thing was so much fun
we're gonna see if we can do it again!

Sitting here thinking about what I'm going to make
to take to the dinner
and what I can make
to take to the pre-meeting buffet at the club ...

I just wondered if anyone else in other areas do something similar?

Yes....I do remember how very ill you were ...

We just had back to back AA parties including families.
We moved Friday Birthday/Speaker night up because of Christmas
Last night was Christmas dinner/speakers/cleanup/fellowshipping.

That's all the exra we will be doing as a group.

We now have 19 meetings a week....up from 8 when
I j moved here 11 years ago.

We have alka-thons, where there are meetings held for 24hours during christmas and new years. I haven't been the last couple of years, but spent a number of years attending or chairing midnight or later meetings. They were always fun, always interesting. Perhaps I will make it back this year, reminds me of good times.

My home group always puts on a Christmas supper, magic act, speaker and bingo night every year. We had the largest turn out I can ever recall in my 11 years last night The only down side to all this is a friend of mine in the program went out and got a DUI. his fourth one.
I hate alcohol.

I am blessed to have a large family 2 hours south, and I am looking so forward to seeing them. I am a little sad I will miss another holiday function at the alano though, I hear they are really something special. They are doing a 24 hour something.

I think for new years I am going to a giant NA/AA dance party about 60 miles north. First time in along time I've wondered something like this, but exactly how does one dance sober? O.o
