"Let no alcoholic say he cannot recover unless he has his family
back. This just isn't so. In some cases the wife will never come
back for one reason or another. Remind the prospect that his
recovery is not dependent upon people. It is dependent upon his
relationship with God. We have seen men get well whose families have
not returned at all. We have seen others slip when the family came
back too soon."

Thank you for this post, Carol.
I didn't believe I could stay sober or live a fulfilling life without my wife and children. I didn't want life to go on without them.
When I finally turned my will and life over to God, He gave me a life that was so much better than I ever imagined. I may not see my children as much as I had planned, but that gives me the time needed to work on my recovery. As for my spouse, that wasn't meant to be. God led me to a partner who understands and works her own program of recovery.
We can recover, and we can be blessed with an incredibly rich life.
