can't find in big book
Hi All, this is my first time posting. I am not sure where to find this, whether it is in the big book or the 12 and 12. Does anyone know where it talks about lying by not telling the truth or by lying through omission? Thanks.

Hi Carol, no I am not new to AA. I have a bit over four years. I just recently found this web site and I think it's great. I think it will be very useful for me especially on the days I can't make it to a meeting.

I think what you are looking for may be in the 12 x 12. The chapter How it Works in the big book stresses the importance of honesty - and in the section dealing with the fifth goes into some detail...but I don't remember it talking about lies by omission. I think that is implied, since you need to be honest with yourself. But, I could be wrong...I just don't remember seeing that....

I think what you might be eluding to can be found on page 74 of the 4th edition of the BB - middle of the page "...but we cannot disclose anything to our wives or our parents..."
This doesnt give us licence to be dishonest, in fact my sponsor has often said (and I agree with him) that we are as sick as our secrets. Take the advice on this page - share your quandry with a "close-mouthed, understanding friend" and get their take on what you might do with that information.
Best of luck!

Hi, thanks everyone who has responded. Maybe I just thought I read something somewhere in the literature about lying being by omission as well. Nonetheless, I appreciate hearing from you all. I would check with my sponsor, but she would give me crap given what context I want the info.

From page 89 in the 12 x 12 ...
Aren't these practices joy-killers as well as time-consumers? Must A.A.'s spend most of their waking hours drearily rehashing their sins of omission or commission? Well, hardly. The emphasis on inventory is heavy ...
