My father is nearly 75, and although he doesn't drink to that excess, the family illness, the dysfunctional interactions, continue. My siblings are in their 30s to late 40s, and not a one of them is seeing the need to go to al-anon or look at why we have family problems.
Sadly, for my family, I don't think it will ever end. But it always depends on each person individually. I know that talking to any one of them is useless. I've tried that, and I'm told none of this stuff ever happened, and then my mom goes and tells people I make up stories.
