hey out there. i have been in recovery for over 2 and a half years....treating my alcoholism. i don't drink but i still feel empty. things have gotten better but the fact remains that i feel like i have no identity...that i mimick what i see in others to get by. i stumbled upon some acoa info and from there i ordered some books. how scary it was to find myself in those books. i have always heard people in aa say...i was reading the big book and for the first time i realized i wasn't alone. well, that didn't really happen for me until i started reading about acoas. so now i know i am not alone...but where do i go from here? there aren't any meetings around where i live. all i have are these books...which are beneficial but i guess i need something more. any suggestions?

Even if you need drive a few miles, the meetings would be worth the trip.
Look about here as well. Read, ask questions, gather info.

As far as the empty feeling... for me I was trying to fill a God shaped hole with anything and everything but the only thing that would fit just right.


The steps of recovery through AA will help you find yourself again as well.
You are there, you just may not realize the new you.
Old habits, new habits... old personality (directed and clouded by alcohol), new personality and also being seen with clear eyes.

Was a shock of sorts to me...What? I have changed that much? WOW!
No more Mr grumpy, selfish, pigheaded, self centered me? OK I am still stubborn but the changes... If I didn't know me I wouldn't recognize me *LOL*
