Clarence Snyder started the first AA meeting (separate from Oxford Group) in Cleveland. Jim Burwell is the atheist who they wanted to kick out of AA. He has a great AA tape on xa speakertapes. Its AA History given in 1957! Not sure where he is from.

Welcome to SoberRecovery kiplinglbillups. Theirs a good lot of information, experiences, support and encouragement here to grow from. I hope your experience here is a beneficial one .
Jim Burwell aka Jimmy B is from Maryland according to A.A. History - Jimmy B. - The Atheist - After 19 Years.
Jimmy B's experience, strength and message of hope is what keeps me connected and sober within and outside of AA.

Best AA Speaker Tapes (3.5+ Stars) | RecoveryAudio.org
Hi All,
found this thread during a google search and not only found a great list of speaker tapes but also a super cool forum!
I love keeping a playlist of speaker tapes on my ipod. I have listened to Joe and Charlie, Mark and Joe and many more of the retreat type tapes (like a retreat in length anyway.) Thus far the most inspiring stuff I have heard is from Sandy B.
I look forward to continuing through the tapes mentioned here as well as joining in other discussions on the board.

I have always liked the Joe and Charlie speaker tapes.
They were the best ever. To go through the steps and understand them - rather then war stories drunkalogs or fluffy stuff is always the best medicine. I find it hard to find a good speaker tape, speakers that are not professional circuit speakers that is. Most speaker meetings i go to don't record the message, except for the round-ups. Vancouver is having one right now, and I am missing it.

if you still need to find them, they are all on YouTube or xa speakers

XA has been my go-to for a lot of years. There are a couple other sites out there but youtube isn't my favorite. Too many of the broadcasters have monitized their pages and I'm not a big fan of all the commercials. Plus, I'm on ATT so I don't have unlimited downloading - so I hit XA to download (or some of the other sites that post the talks I'm looking for) and download the file. I should probably host my AA-talks file somewhere. I've got a couple hundred gigs of talks that I've fallen in love with over the years.
