First day of new job, done! Now tidying up the apartment before an evening meeting, but first I'm checking in to commit to another 24 hours of sobriety!

Last night’s post made me think of animals in worship, myth, and poetry – especially birds, the animals I like to watch. First on my list, inspired by afloatsober’s new avatar, is the swan. I associate the swan with the Hindu goddess Sarasvati, goddess of knowledge, music, and the arts, whose vehicle the swan symbolizes purity and filtering the good from the bad.

But the swan also symbolizes something alien and awful in bird power, as in the story of Leda who was seduced or raped by Zeus in the form of a swan and gave birth to Helen of Troy. I thought about posting a classical image of Leda and the swan, but the ones I liked were all too kinky, I think, for SR. So here’s a question about that odd episode from Yeats, instead:

Being so caught up,
So mastered by the brute blood of the air,
Did she put on his knowledge with his power
Before the indifferent beak could let her drop?
The swan strikes me dumb through paradoxes: purity and brutality, inspiration and domination. It makes me admit the limits of my understanding. Here’s a link to some slow motion footage of mute swans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbrU7hDdbGg. Well worth the 2.5 minutes it takes to watch and meditate on the mystery of something so far outside one’s own self.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone in the next 24 hours!

Stay safe in Arizona our SR friends. Thank you Courage on The Swan for today's insight. I am working on some questions my Sponsor handed me. So, I think meditating with your Swan video will help me here. I loved seeing the photos of the Caribbean too, thank you friend.
Signing in for my next 24 hours of Recovery. This week I've been watching the Ken Burns documentary on The Roosevelt's.....so thank you HP & AA.....without which I wouldn't have a clue as to what I watched and learned! ( Being that the show comes on during my past getting wasted on wine time.)

8:51 PM on Orcas Island.

Here's a pair of trumpeter swans on a lake here in the wintertime. The swans appear here only during cold snaps, but are common in the farmland on the mainland in winter.

Over the weekend, I relapsed. However, I did a lot of self-reflecting and made some changes and feel like I am back on the right path. Today is Day 4 and I still feel very headstrong and committed.

Committing to another 24hrs - 12:07am NY.
