Little Shop of Horrors

I hope some of you have seen the play, Little Shop of Horrors. For some reason, I have always thought of this alcohol Beast as the monster plant in that play/movie living inside of us. He needs alcohol to live and once he has a single sip, he grows and grows and demands more and more, until he eventually destroys you. In the play, he thrives on blood, in our body, he thrives on alcohol. If we don't feed him any, he will eventually shrivel up, and leave us alone. But one sip, and he's growing, growing again.

I hope this makes sense to you all! It's simple, just don't give him one drop, and he'll leave you alone!

Hi, Jillwink and welcome to our little corner of the internet!

I've never watched the play, but oh my, how the description of alcohol addiction that you wrote, rings true. Yes, that's how my Booze Beast used to operate, give IT an inch and it would take a mile, then that mile could've led to taking my life. Glad you're here, Jillwink.

What if IT doesn't shrivel up and leave us alone? What then?

Zen, thanks so much for taking the time to find this video! It just connects with me so much regarding "the monster".

Algorithm, good question. Wish I had an easy answer...... I guess we can continue to share what works for each of us.

I don't agree with this analogy at all. But each to their own viewpoint

Nothing. Let IT yap and carry on living.

I gotta tell you Algorithm, you pointing out to me yesterday that when I feel like I'm "winning" the internal debates I have with IT, or marveling at staying sober were all AV was a real eyeopener. I see now why the concept of counting time is AV because it suggests that it could be otherwise. I never saw before how those feelings of victory are AV because they suggest an alternative, defeat. It changed my whole thinking. Thank you again.

Ever since you posted this thread I have been singing the songs from this musical in my head. I have the original cast (off) Broadway album (on vinyl). I can't play it, but it gave me a lot of fond memories.

I have the script for the play. I'm going to give it a read with this visual in mind!
