Avoiding Triggers
When we first stop drinking/drugging we should probably change a lot of the small
things connected with our drinking or using.
Maybe there was a certain chair we sat in when we drank. Or sat down and watched
a certain TV show in the same spot each night with drink in hand.
Maybe we sat in the den with the phone making calls.
Maybe we sat out on the porch and drank, may be it was in a familiar pub.
Maybe we listened to a particular song.
Maybe we met our drug dealer in a particular parking lot.
Maybe it was a favorite restaurant.
I know I started taking different routes in the car so I wouldn't pass a particular
drinking establishment that I have some horrible memories from.
I used to park my car in this one little spot by a beautiful river and drink. I have
avoided it ever since I stopped.
It is about developing the habit and awareness of learning how to redirect ourselves.
It helps to replace a certain behavior, habit or routine with another behavior.
The problem in many cases is that we have old behaviors that may trigger us into
wanting to use.
Because we have deja vu'
So let's switch it up today.
Today let's avoid the routines we did while we were drinking and using and replace them
with healthy behaviors.
Like excercise, meditation, reading, hobbies.
This is how we will stay away from triggers.

The Impossible Dream (Lyrics)
To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To be - better far than you are
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star
This is my quest, to follow that star
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To be willing to give when there's no more to give
To be willing to die so that honor and justice may live
And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest
And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star

Thank you Deek, for the beautiful song. Some health issues regarding this consistent cough of mine. I'm in the IDK what's goin on part. What I do know is that my HP is present, and that it will all work out in the end. Whatever that is. So, Bobbi here and signing in for another 24 hours of Recovery.
It's 10 pm in Oregon,
I'm going to bed sober again tonight
That means no hangover, no regrets, no headache
in the morning,
just another chance at a beautiful, productive day
My son is home from the hospital, we have laughter in the house again,
life is full of hope and promise, for both of us!
Carry on, and stay strong, my sober buddies,
it's all so worth it! Thanks for being here, too,
deeker, and all the regulars who make it so welcome and comforting,
Peace,
~Heartfan
