Comming off alcohol
Hello all,
I have read these forums for a while now and was figured it was time to post up.
I have been on 5mg klonopin a day for about 1.5 years now perscribed for anxiety (I know a large dose..I am working on it). Over the last month I kind of fell off some and have had about 10-12 drinks per night. I want to CT the alcohol, but am nervous about the effects it could have, as I know what can happen when you CT benzos.
I know I have been drinking heavy, but has it been long enough? If I CT the alcohol and stick with with the 5mg of klonopin am I gonna have seizures/wd from the alcohol? Should I drop it to say 4 beers for a few beers then hop off? Did not really want to post this as I am not sure if I am going to like the answers but hopefully it's not to bad.
I know nobody here is a doctor (maybe you are) but just looking for some opinions or your own personal stories.
Thank you for your input.

Hi and welcome
Those are questions you need to ask of a professional thxdts - we simply can't give you medical advice here - it's against our rules.
why not see a Dr?

I won't see a doctor because I think there full of **** to be quite honest with you. the same ones that prescribe the benzo I am taking now that will turn on you like alcohol does.
Answer me this question, what is a doctor going to do? Prescribe a benzo? I am already taking a high dose of a strong benzo. The entire industry is a bunch of ****, I am sure you know this.

This may not be the answer you want, but as someone who has been there, done that, and am still in the midst of doing that- getting off benzos and quitting alcohol- you must seek help from a Dr.
I understand your point, my GP prescribed me the benzos as well. But trust me this is not child's play. Don't do it yourself. Find a Dr. or specialist who can handle addictions. I did and am currently on a taper schedule. You will be better off for it and I also suggest you get some solid support in place because coming off one or the other usually leads to a relapse. Again, experience. This is one of the hardest roads in my opinion when it comes to withdrawal, as it's not over in a week or month. It takes time, guidance and determination. you will need professional assistance. I know it's tempting to seek answers on the internet but... I tried for a year and eventually had to find a shrink who I could tell my history to and try and get off this stuff.
Best of luck.

I detoxed off of alcohol and klonopin together at an inpatient detox facility. I had been prescribed klonopin for a decade, gradually ramped up my use and frighteningly used alcohol at the same time. This is a very very serious combination, I didn't realize the great risk I was taking at the time.
I thought I was pretty smart, used klonopin to help with hangovers etc, I feel lucky to be here today. Please don't fool around with this. I thought I was smarter than the doctors.
Benzos and alcohol both depress the system, and if you are abusing either I hope you consider getting help beyond this detox. Please don't try to figure out tapering or quantities yourself, consult with a doctor as soon as you can.

You must seek out a doctor for this. Call around and ask these doctors if they have experience with your situation.
I experienced my first seizure this week because of a very similar detox. I was behind the wheel. I could have been seriously injured or killed.
