That's great! You're doing
things - taking action. I can lie in bed all day wishing and being willing to become an astronaut, but unless I take the actions required, nothing changes. So you've decided to do some things that will not only take you out of self, as you described, but you're also doing something that will benefit someone else as well. And that's the kind of thing we do in AA.
As to your "wisdom" -I am sure that your life experiences will help this teen. You don't have to be a fountain of wise sayings or have mystical teachings to be a mentor. Just being there for them, listening, guiding, suggesting, sharing your experience....that is all you need to do. And be yourself. Sounds a lot like a sponsor....
