Trying to get my life on track

I signed up to be a mentor to a teenager at this place called the Matthews house near my house. I'm only in my twenties so I don't know how much wisdom I have to offer. I thought this would get me out of my head because that is a bad place for me to be and it would help me find a job. I started applying for jobs. My first informational meeting is in february. I'm excited for this can't wait.

That's great! You're doing things - taking action. I can lie in bed all day wishing and being willing to become an astronaut, but unless I take the actions required, nothing changes. So you've decided to do some things that will not only take you out of self, as you described, but you're also doing something that will benefit someone else as well. And that's the kind of thing we do in AA.

As to your "wisdom" -I am sure that your life experiences will help this teen. You don't have to be a fountain of wise sayings or have mystical teachings to be a mentor. Just being there for them, listening, guiding, suggesting, sharing your experience....that is all you need to do. And be yourself. Sounds a lot like a sponsor....

Awesome.

Great learning experience, I'm sure, awaits you.

I used to sponsor Alateens. I'm telling you, that was THE best service commitment. For 5 years, those kids taught me so much....
