Relapse vs Slip

To me the difference between a "slip" and a "relapse" is how you justify drinking once you've committed to being sober. You will say slip like it's an "oopsie, I didn't mean to." In reality, if you are an addict, have gone through the motions and HARD WORK of recovery, there is no slip...only relapse. True addicts have no control if that drink is in their hand. (I'm using "you" in the general sense and not pointing fingers)
The thought that constantly weighs in my mind is "why can't I have just one?" Then I have to remind myself that it's because I won't stop at one which leads to everywhere I don't want to be. I'm very aware of the consequences...if I choose to drink, it's definitely not a "slip."
