Compromising Sobriety?
Loved one is in recovery from opioids (fentanyl). Has not used drug of choice since April. Has regularly used kratom since then. Going on vacation soon. It's a large family reunion for a week. He has said he would like to smoke marijuana (with some of the family who smoke) while on vacation. Is this a slippery slope?
I glad your addict has been off his DOC since April. But based on what I've read about kratom, I believe he's already on a slippery slope. There are a few threads on SR about how difficult it is to quit, no matter how "un- addictive" it is touted by those selling it...or choosing to use it.
Pot is just going to make the slope a little more slippery.

For me ... and most people I associate with in the Recovered community ...
... A Drug is a Drug is a Drug...
and using a drug to 'change the way I feel' is not a catch-phrase 'Slippery Slope' ... the input of the Drug sets the cycle in motion.
It is like the line in the movie, The Titanic. - when the Engineer was informed 'the water is going over the baffles' his reply was ... it is a mathematical certainty, the ship is going down.
It is like the saying goes ... the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over - and expecting different results. For me, it is just another form of self-delusion to think a 'different drug' is not going to set the cycle in motion.
