Milestone Day
I wrote about it coming up earlier in the week, but today is Day 17. This marks the longest stretch without a drink since my 21st birthday. I have not been a problem drinker for the whole 12 years, but most definitely the last 5.
I’m not sure if it’s a little somatic on my part knowing that I broke a new barrier, or maybe it was just a reaction to the nice weather, but on an after-work walk, I was definitely feeling a threshold in mental clarity.
I know there will be highs and lows, days of struggle, and it’s still very early in the grand scheme of things.. but today feels like a big deal to me. 🙂

BITL, that is so cool when you realize that getting sober has some real positive effects on both your mind and body. My last drink was on May 6th. I can't believe how much more alive I feel now. I am 64 and have been drink heavily for the past 17 years. Not every day, sometimes a week in between but mostly just long enough for the cruddy feeling to filter out so I could start again. Did I mention how much money I have saved? Keep it up. It only gets better from what I have read here.
