I found going one day at a time and telling myself in the morning I no longer drink helps. It sets the mood for the entire day. I'm trying to change my brain and doing that helps me not only fight/avoid my AV but also make it through the day sober. First thing in the morning I think AV you can kiss my you know what, I don't drink. It might be a reverse psychology thing on myself but hey it works so far. Great topic

Putting down the bottle was the very first step. Then I needed to change the way that I thought, which wasnt so easy. But going to AA really helped.
For me it is being able to be honest about what is going on. When my AV kicks up, I need to be able to tell someone who "gets" it. I think maybe the word accountability comes into play. I have a problem and hiding any of it only lets it grow unfettered. Shining the light into that darkness with honesty helps me a LOT!
For me...I need to change my approach/importance to food/nutrition.
Eating healthy nutritious food helps repair our bodies and our minds.
It's one of the things i regularly slack back on...Not today!
Not today! Not anyday! (kinda my motto... )

Soberwolf, what a great post! I'm new, only 3 days sober, but I think what keeps me going is meditating on the person who I want to become...healthy, fit, and happy! And, once I get over this darned cold, going out there and actually doing it! Making a plan and sticking to it!!
I had to get to the point where I knew in my heart that nothing could possibly be worse than the daily cycle of drinking, pass out, go to work, drinking, pass out, go to work, drinking, pass out, go to work......
This included sobriety. I knew that sobriety could not be any worse than the hell I was living in. So, this meant that at the very worst, I would continue living in hell but save tons of money by not buying booze. Therefore, sobriety was already better!
My number one tool is checking in here on SR every single day. Instead of being drunk all evening I am usually on here reading posts. Since I am not hungover during the day I can be productive.
Checking in here everyday is what keeps me going.
