Back in the game!
Back in the game!
Well you haven't heard from littlefish because I tripped up and started drinking again. Had a stressfull week mid July and there you have it. Broke my sobriety. I didn't know how to deal with it. After 20 years of drinking, I've only had one method of dealing with stress and that's the bottle.
Anyway I'm sober again and feeling great.
When I'm sober I do a lot of thinking about all the whys? of alcoholism.
I call it: "Thinking, not drinking".
And, let me tell you, in this recovery stage, it means a lot of soul searching. I'm writing a diary. And that diary has helped me enormously.
But anyway, I just wanted to share my thought of the day. Food.
A couple of days before I quit (second time this summer) I had reached the point where I had no appetite left. I picked at my food. Lots of you know the drill.
Yesterday I made pan-fried fish, corn on the cob, new red potatoes (from my garden) broad beans. A real good country dinner. (Not that I live in the country...)Afterwards, fresh cherries that I had gotten from my neighbor.
Delicious. And then I thought: food is something that I miss out on when I'm drinking. IF I can eat, I usually have made such a mess of my stomach that I just pick at the food. Or, when I finally am hungry, I eat in the fashion I call "drunk hungry", and then I just grab anything from the fridge and stuff my face. Then I end up with indigestion.
Man, it sure is nice to eat again!
