After quitting...

Hi Guys!

I've joined the non-smokers group and have been quit for about 10 days now. Thanks to all of you, though you didn't know it, your posts in this forum helped me ALOT during those first few days....(esp. you historyteach! I've been chomping cinnamon gum LOL)

Just some quick questions: I know the nicotine is out of my system but I'm still getting cravings obviously. But, I have some other wierd things I was wondering if anyone else experienced this.

Muscle weakness/tingling in the forearms, hands and fingers. A bit of numbness in the fingers of left hand.

Panic attacks! Not to the point of freaking out, but like my outside self is calm but inside my heart is pounding, my eyes are filling with tears and my stomach is all butterflies.

A little bit of restless leg syndrome symptoms.

I'm figuring these things are due to stopping smoking so I'm trying to have patience with them and hoping they will diminsh with time. I'm not giving up on quitting, even though I love smoking, my lungs were starting to hurt and it scared me. I'm only 27, and have a 2 year old son who I didn't want to equate Mommy with "ashtray".

Thanks for your help!

Congratulations, Meggie!

I've not experienced the symptoms you relate due to quitting smoking, but I do have problems with anxiety and some of those symptoms sound similar to that. I'd advise you check this out with your doctor - it could just be a coincidence that this started around the time you quit smoking. If you are having anxiety attacks, it's possible your breathing rate is faster at those times and causing some of the symptoms like tingling.

It's great that you've quit - keep up the good work, and don't forget to post on the daily check in thread.

Hugs!

Thanks Margo! I've told my therapist what is going on and he is setting up an appt. with a pyschiatrist to maybe prescribe some meds. I'm going through a stressful period with life in general so it could be that, or it could be that plus quitting etc. etc....

Thanks again for the support!
