My share for today on "letting go"
I heard this poem at a "God As I Understand Him" meeting at an Alateen conference years ago. I have since committed it to memory, and it does my soul good to recite it from time to time.
As children bring their broken toys,
in tears for us to mend
I brought my broken dreams to God,
because he was my friend
And then, instead of leaving him
in peace to work alone
I hung around and tried to help
with ideas of my own
At last I snatched them back and said
"How can you be so slow?"
"My child," He said, "what could I do? You never did let go."
Wishing you all serenity, courage and wisdom,
Gabe
As children bring their broken toys,
in tears for us to mend
I brought my broken dreams to God,
because he was my friend
And then, instead of leaving him
in peace to work alone
I hung around and tried to help
with ideas of my own
At last I snatched them back and said
"How can you be so slow?"
"My child," He said, "what could I do? You never did let go."
Wishing you all serenity, courage and wisdom,
Gabe
Thanks, Gabe, for that poem. I've started a "Quotes" file on my computer. Everytime I read something good here...and there are LOTS of good things said here, I copy and paste them to my Quotes file. And when I need a boost, I go there and read.
Thanks to all of you for providing me words or encouragement and strength!

I too love that poem; I believe It's called Broken Dreams. I have it on my frig, along with alot of other slogans from the program.
It's so hard to detach sometimes; and sometimes I have to detach in anger before I can detach with love...That very word detach is one of the tools Al-Anon gave me..It's one I have to remember most of the time...just so I can stay in my own skin.
Here's a thought just for the fun of it..I really love it...
If I can't let go completely: I'll hang on loosely.
Sunbeams and blessings to all of you.

Hey daffodil
"Hang On Loosely" is a .38 Special song. I am a big fan. I like your take on their song title. There is a line in that song that goes "If you cling too tightly, you're gonna lose control." Good food for thought.
Thanks,
Gabe
**SMACKING FOREHEAD!** The .38 Special song is "Hold on Loosely" but the gist of my message is the same. That's what I get for trying to post something coherent while the kidster is singing Don Henley songs in my ear.
Thanks,
Gabe

Hi Gabe,
I started out reading one of your posts and I was impressed by how you have handled your situation. I started reading more and realized we lived down the street from one another. I see that you're not accepting PM's and I just wanted to say hey neighbor and hopefully since you're so close maybe some of that good recovery will rub off.
