SoberRecovery TeamSpeak!?!? Doug??
SoberRecovery TeamSpeak!?!? Doug??
I'll throw this out there. Here is a popular program that is used mostly by gamers that allows for internet teleconferncing. Basically users can launch this program enter an IP, Username & Password (all only once), and enter the room of your choice to talk just like conference call. Much like this community forum, you can add individual channels like NA, AA, Alcoholism, Drug Addiction, Cafe Central etc. I think SoberRecovery could really benefit from using such a program. The best part is that it's absolutely free to non-profits and all SR would need is a server to host this. Then each user can download and install the client version for free and enter thier info and boom your talking with the group. It's a great way to just socialize, hold meetings, or even more importantly help someone through a desperate moment. If ppl like this idea should I post it somewhere else more appropriate within these forums?
All we would need:
* someone to provide a hosting server.
* then each of us downloads/installs the software
* a headset with built-in mic (they are very cheap)
* for a FREE way to communicate with each other in a group setting.

Anyway when you say chat what do you mean? It's bascially a way if you have a headset and mic to connect to a channel via your commuter and talk with as many ppl that are in the channel, all at the same time. For Free!

It is different because you use the mic and speakers. Some programs allow for web cams as well.
IRC has come into the next generation.
No different then using the mic on paltalk or ***** in a chat room.
This would be a system set aside that only those with the password and IRC channel code could find or get into.

I've used it for years while gaming and it's great, but it certainly doesn't have anything specific to do with gamers... it's just a great tool that helps them communicate while they all play the same game. Actually Best, IRC doesn't have anything to do with TS... not directly anyway.

Most other communities I belong to (outside of recovery) have this to help compliment their forum community. Just an interesting thought for those who might be interested in getting to know others a bit more personal.
Okay, so if 1000's of people can all talk at the same time, then how does everyone not interupt each other?
Next thought, omg, can you imagine everyone from the one of the James Frey threads trying to have a civil conversation!!!!! I'd be scared!!
But other than those thoughts, I think it's a cool idea.......
I love the name change, btw!~~ :-) Are you going to change or keep the avatar?
I am just wondering cause I always forget that people change those, like I keep getting confused that Big Sis is still big sis, her new look is so different!
Then I look and see it's her!! and I'm like Oh!! It's her.
Okay, nevermind me, I just woke up from a nap. I'm still asleep I think.

I've used it before at other sites that have online meetings. Having a mic (speakers help) allowed for some of us to talk instaed of type during an online meeting.
SR doesn't have this now, but I'll pass this on to the guy who houses all the "mechanics" of this place.

I have Ventrillo and Teamspeak downloaded and use them for gaming. I love it and I would love it being here too. I am partial to Ventrillo though. You can use either or and it would be the same effect.
