Wink Help! I Slipped and Smoked! ;)

Help! I Slipped and Smoked

If you're here reading this, it means you want to get back on track.

Was this a single slip that's over now?

This type of slip will not change your Quit Day. Try to figure out what happened.

Could you see it coming?
Could you have avoided the situation?
If you were to be in a similar situation, how would you handle it?

You can carry on as a wiser nonsmoker.

Did the slip happen a while ago, and have you returned to smoking?

If so, it may help to step back, get organized and quit again very soon. Think now about what brought you back to smoking.

Could you see it coming?
Could you have avoided the situation?
If you were to be in a similar situation, how would you handle it?

We suggest that you learn from this slip and then move to the Taking a Look, Getting Ready, and/or Counting Down sections of the Quit Wizard. You'll be able think about your smoking, set a new Quit Date and go through the preparations for a new effort. This may seem like a lot of work, but you have a better chance of staying quit next time -- especially if you're better prepared!

I find this website very helpful. I hope you find the information helpful too.

Shalom!

Yeah, count me into the group that was alarmed.

So.... does running in here, waving the "Rescue" flag mean I slipped in my Alanon recovery? ...grin.

Progress... not perfection.

You know, I seriously thought about this before I posted. And that's why I put the " " in the title line, hopeing people would understand.
But, it's just as well, if it gets the message out.
(I hope! hehehe)
Didn't mean to scare you, though, Roa. I would NEVER do that! LOL!
Now breathe deeply, innnn...... out......

I'm afraid it does... LOL!

Progress... not perfection.
Thank GOODNESS!!!

Oh, dear, I guess my " " isn't working as well as I'd hoped...
But, it's really nice to know you care....

Shalom, my friends....

Oh, Roa, I am about to pee my pants, here!
And ya know, I was honestly thinking about you when I posted this too. I especially like this line:
This type of slip will not change your Quit Day.
To me, that is the way to think. I know others will disagree, and this is not for an arguement; I'm only giving my thoughts here. But, taking a drag or having one or two, then RECOGNIZING it and REALIZING that this is NOT what you want is a very positive thing in my view.
Taking an all or nothing attitude is quite defeatist, in my opinion. In the past, I've done exactly that, and said, "Well, scr*w it; I've already blown my quit, so I might as well keep on smoking!"
Now, today, I recognize that as the nicodemon talking junk to me. But, those negative self talk kept me smoking for YEARS! All because of a drag or a single butt?
Not today.
Honestly, I am afraid to have that drag or that butt. I'm afraid I'll be right back to two packs a day again, so I haven't done it. But, I know it's possible.
And if I did "slip" today, I would not consider it a relapse and go back to day one. I'd try my hardest to learn from it so I don't slip again!

So, far from trying to scare the living daylights out of you, Roa, my intention was to post something quite positive for you....

And I know, the road to hell is paved with good intentions....
Sorry...

Keep the quit and post before you puff!!!

Shalom!

How true. I would love to have a cig. But I have put too much into not smoking. For me it was not mentioning it to anyone. From a previous thread I didnt tell my hubby. And my daughter and family finally put 2 and 2 together and she called and asked if I had quit smoking. They had visited us 3 times in 2 months and decided they had better ask. Her and husband dont smoke. One factor that helped was the high price of cigs in Mich. My would be $45.oo a carton compared to $28.00 in Fla. Also we had sold our business in Michigan and we always got them thur the business-cheaper. So you could say that a hugh cheap attach hit and I realized that I didnt want to pay full price anymore!!!! I do feel bettter and enjoy not worrying about running out and getting more at midnight or wait have to finish this one. I told my husband no smoking in my new car. God help me I'm begining to sound like my sister. She doesn't allow smoking in her house. Haven't told her yet. Stopped by and visited her going and coming last spring and fall. But weren't there but a few hours so I know she didn't notice.. Well Good Luck to everyone and keep up the good work. You can all be very proud of yourselves.

Well, it is something i have thought about for awhile now and I have decided February 1 is my quit date...I have to be a rebel and not do it Jan 1 like everyone else!! I already limit myself during the work days and have successfuly gone up to ten hours without a smoke at work without a patch or killing any co-workers so I feel very confident.
Thanks for the website Teach...I have registered and have my quit plan in place...I am gonna persevere

Try this

the Farmers almanac suggests

Quit a Habit or Smoking 16-19, 25, 26

http://www.farmersalmanac.com/bestdays/bestdays.html

I stopped the 29 of Dec. as was suggested. I didn't even go thru a desire to speak of. Give it a try !!!

Sun;
It was over $50 a carton here in RI when I quit Nov 29th, 2005.
Ohhhhhh, that was LAST YEAR!!! I can honestly say I quit LAST YEAR!!!
But, I know what you mean about the expense. Since I smoked two packs a day, it was smoking more than a carton a week.

Here ;
I really found the website helpful. And I have posted many of their articles on this site already. Good luck on your quit. Remember to post in the daily check in. It helps keep me accountable.

I am now One month, three weeks, three days, 51 minutes and 31 seconds smoke free. That's 2161 cigarettes not smoked, saving $594.39. Life saved: 1 week, 12 hours, 5 minutes.

Shalom!

Yup,
Better to be a stinker than to stink, huh?

Ya know, over on Naranon forum, we used to talk about how to get people's attention with our titles. The more provockative, outlandish, sexy... the more responses one would get.
I think I finally got it!

Just remember this above all else:
Keep the quit and post before you puff!
Shalom!

Oh, Plano,
You are truely showing your age! We don't give the dunce cap and/or corner any more. It would hurt their "self esteem." No, today, we applaud them for cutting class, and justify a child swearing out their teacher and walking out of class! :nono:
Sorry, just going through the biggest bunch of crap at this school right now!

But, I'll tell ya what....If I *do* slip up, kindly kick my butt! Cuz I'm gonna really need it.

Oh, your signature line....That's the definition of character! :>)
I LIKE it!

Thanks for thinking of me, Teach. I don't know what I consider my quit date...I guess after I had the cig....but it doesn't really matter. The savings is still adding up $156.18 minus $5.00 for my relapse. That's a lot of money!!!

I'm feeling better and better every day (except for the flu I had yesterday).

Anyway, guess I'll KEEP THE QUIT!

Good thing I don't have to post before I chew.....I'd be posting all day long. Chewing mostly regular, low octane gum. Had three pieces of nicotine gum yesterday. Hey that's progress.
