Pointy sticks again!
Pointy sticks again!
I’ve been getting one or two nudges from dear people here to let you all know how Phil’s doing. (And me too )
In spite of the relapse Christmas was wonderful; Phil spoiled me rotten.
After that first awful day when I panicked on here at the phone call from Phil to say he had relapsed, I found myself coping better than I had ever expected to. You don’t always think too clearly at first when you get a shock and it was words written by my good friends here that made all the difference.
Phil managed to get himself sober in time to go back to work after the Christmas break; sobers not really the right word here, he was in his right mind and not drunk for the whole holiday period he just maintained a controlled withdrawal from the alcohol. He was only 1 day free of all alcohol when he went back to work; he thought he had the withdrawal beat. Not so, he was working the first night shift when it hit him; hyper-anxiety, rapid heart rate, uncontrollable shakes. His boss told him to take more time to get straight and Phil went back to his digs in quite a state. There was an unfinished bottle of vodka that he’d hidden during his pre- Christmas relapse and forgotten about.Nuff said.
So, 6hours and a 360mile round trip again he was back home after one day, and this time we saw his therapist and got medication for an outpatient withdrawal; Phil’s decision. He’s been off the alcohol for a week now, no withdrawal symptoms and feeling better every day.
Phil is in awe of the fact that I stay with him, I told him it’s because of who he is and because of SR; he knew that I posted on a website about addictions but not which one.
I showed him SR, he’s been reading posts!! So it’s not always me on the Active Members list now! He doesn’t read my PM’s though! (Ssshh doesn’t know how!)
I told him your story Christie and about Frodo, he say’s “So, there’s another wacky lady like you across the pond!”
And I told him about you Equus and all the times you’ve been there for me; and all you guys who have been there with the right words when I’ve needed them.
And I told him that if I seem to know the right things to say and do, like he says I do; then it’s because of SR.
And Gabe… I didn’t get the red stilettos, they’re gold and they are gorgeous!!

Ain't life grand!!! Another happy post. Good grief--2 in one day.
I'm really glad things are working out for you Susane. You and Phil will continue to be in my prayers.

I, too, had been wondering how you and Phil were doing. Glad you had a great holiday and that he's back on track.
Now about those black shoes, Gabe, those are "take your clothes off, but leave the shoes on," type of shoes if you ask me. Not that I've ever participated in something of that nature, of course....

Hi Phil (whoops - sorry that was probably a bit freaky!!).
It's so good to hear things are going well...
On the stilletto front - Eeeeeeeeeep!!!! I remember managing quite well when I was 16 but then years working in yard boots rewired my brain I now I have more chance of wagoning a unicycle on ice than walking in stillettos....
....like watching acrobats it's become a spectator sport which fills me with admiration.
Thankfully D and me are the same height so I'm less than convinced 4 inch heels would add to my sex appeal!!
