Grand Mal Seizure

Hi. My husband and I registered here yesterday. He was trying to go cold turkey and starting to go through the shakes, hallucinations. Last night he went into a grand mal seizure and is in hospital recovering. Does anyone have experience/ advice during this time. Do the seizures reoccur often?

Welcome

I am sorry to hear about your husband. I cant give you any advice about seizures, because I am not a doctor, although sometimes I think I am . Thank god he is in the hospital now. I am sure they will monitor him very closely. There is a great friends and family forum here that you might want to take a look at, to get some support for yourself. Some very kind, great people there.
Bless, trish

Hello

and Welcome!

I am sorry your husband decided to go cold turkey...it can be dangerous as you now know. Thankfully he is getting the treatment he needs for withdrawal in the hospital.

Good luck to both of you...this can be the last time he has to suffer thru withdrawal. I hope he plans on a recovery support program to stay focused on staying stopped.

Welcome to SR!

I'm very sorry your husband had to go through this but yes it does happen. Right now he's in the best place for him, he'll get a lot of help from the doctors going through the withdrawal periods which can last about a week. He'll experience a lot of other things such as irritability, sleeplessness, anxiety, emotional periods, but if he doesn't drink he'll be fine and it will get easier.
