My name is Midas & I'm an alcoholic.
Hi Everybody! Sorry I'm so late. (My first sponsor told me, "Always apologize for showing up SO late to your first meeting.")
So here I am, finally. I've spent several frustrating months looking for a good online AA discussion forum that has decent activity. My SuperInflated Ego doesn't need anymore strokage by going back and re-re-reading my own posts half a dozen times while waiting for someone to offer some feedback. That just plain sucks.
I'm glad I found Sober Recovery. Looks like this site has a LOT of members and more than moderate activity. Nice.
Funny though how time slips away on me (And I'm sure this isn't uncommon for people in recovery). Just the other day I was thinking out loud "How long have I been sober now anyways??" I actually had to stop what I was doing to bring up Dr. Silkworth's Sobriety Calculator!
<TABLE cellPadding=0 width="51%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD><CENTER><INPUT size=6 value=949 name=time3> Days </CENTER></TD><TD><CENTER><INPUT size=3 value=9 name=time2> Hours </CENTER></TD><TD><CENTER><INPUT size=3 value=55 name=time1> Minutes </CENTER></TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Thanks for listening to me ramble.

I love this board cause there is a lot of good talk which makes for some great lurking. Plus they have this cool dancing banana icon!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! I'm glad you're all here too. When you're Higher Power puts a desire in your heart, you become obligated to seek it out. That's one reason why I'm here. Chances are, there might be a lone, desperate alcoholic out looking for help--who's probably heard every story in the book and doubtful of any recovery. That's where I hope to play my part.
Experience: Requires footwork. Lot's of fancy footwork. The steps are fairly simple--repeat as needed.
Strength: Requires temperament. We start out very weak and frail. Sometimes we're close to death's door. Discipline builds up our defenses.
Hope: Requires belief. If you can't believe in yourself, who will? By default, AA will. It's our responsibility. Believe in the Promises & live them.
Peace Be With You All.

6 Months of Sharing
WoW! Six months ago, I plunged headlong into the Pool of Recovery. In some ways, I feel as if I've made huge strides in boosting my sober defiance. In other ways, I feel like I've taken a few steps (or strokes) backwards. So much has happened in this past year, the past six months, and most recently--the past eight weeks!!
My sense of humor seems to be bursting at the seams as well.
I am very grateful for all the members here on SR. You're all helping to keep me sober. This site has been, and continues to be a sanctuary.
« Constantine's Alpha-Omega Cross « Classic Egyptian Ankh
[Editor's Note: Look closely at the AO cross a moment. Its design bears the sigil of the ankh. I find this particularly fascinating.]
So anyway...Thanks to everyone and the powers that be! Happy Holidays.

Six months ago, I would not have guessed just how much of an impact my sobriety has for the community.
[Not to mention fighting off my super-inflated ego with a pointy stick, LOL.]
Neither did I realize just how much the SR community would have towards the quality of my sobriety.
It's important to celebrate, like Becky said. And six months ago, I didn't expect any of my contributions to be promoted to Stick-Note status. I'm sure there are veteran forum members who may consider it trivial, but that means a lot to me.
And thanks to everyone who has visited and/or provided feedback on my Scared Sober thread.
Keep Coming Back!
