Hi there, I was reading another thread, and seen you are reading a book called Permanent Midnight. Can you tell me a little about it? I love to read books on addiction. Is it pretty good? Thanks, Love, Becky

Permanent Midnight

Its a great book! Its an autobiography about the life of Jerry Stahl. He is an addict, and much of the book is about his using years. He was a writer for the show "ALF" that was on in the 1980s. He started out using for fun, and then ended up using to survive like all of us have, before finding recovery! I love the book, I just got back into it, I had to put it away because the details were making me crave opiates, so I waited until I got on suboxone and now I'm fine with it now! It makes me laugh and it also makes me remember that I don't want to go back down that road again!

You may be able to find an inexpensive copy of it at www.amazon.com. Glad you wrote to me! Hope things are going well for you! Write again soon! PM me sometime if you wish!

Luv

Jocelyn

If you are into fiction, you can find hints of recovery talk in books by Stephen King and Dean Koontz. I also occasionally read medical thrillers, by authors like Robin Cook, and there is a guy named Michael Palmer who I really enjoy reading. He is a doctor who writes fiction and he is also in recovery. He has even written some of his lead characters as recovering addicts.

Point me toward any fiction or non-fiction recovery novells and I'm there! It inspires me so much! Thanks angel for starting this thread! We should list any books we can think of that deal with recovery (outside of AA and NA texts). Thanks!

I always loved The Shining. Big message on alcohol abuse in that book. Not in the movie as much, but the book

Hi guys,
This ones not recovery related but I just wanted to share! It's called "The Wild Parrots Of Telegraph Hill" and there is also a movie and DVD coming out late December!
http://www.wildparrotsfilm.com/index.html
{The trailor is wonderful!}
Great book for parrot/bird lovers or if you are lucky enough to be owned by one of these magnificient and intellgent creatures like myself!
It is actually the first book I have been able to get interested in in sooo many years and now I hate to put it down! Reading, like so many things, is something that if you stop for a long period, it takes awhile to get back into it and I am so happy to have picked up this healthy hobby once again!!
**{HUGS}} and keep reading ya'll!!

Angelgirl,

Another thing we have in common, lol, , I sooo love A Million Little Pieces!
It's part of what got me to this place I am now. Actually the links I bumped into when reading Oprahs site about it, led me here eventually also.

But yea, that is one amazing book. I loved it! I can't wait to read the follow up book of it.

Another good addiction book is,
More, Now, Again.......

Great book
