Whatever it takes....
Wow, lots of controversy here lately. It seems to me that if someone is doing something that helps them keep sober, and possibly also helps someone else keep sober, then I am all for it.
AA meetings work for you? GREAT!
You like some parts of AA, but not others? GREAT! Take what you can use and leave the rest!
AA seems like a cult to you and is not for you? THATS FINE TOO - there are other options out there and I hope you find one that fits because sobriety can be a great way to live.
Hey, I feel better already. Personally, AA has helped me a lot - and so has SR. Here's to the next sober 24 hours......

1.) Roll the tape.. If I am going to remember the good times .. I make sure to remember the bad times..
2.) I'm thouroughly convinced my thinking process is screwy enough without adding anything ele to the electrochemical mess of my brain.
3.) it's only a feeling I can survive it sober.

1) What ever happens, my head will not expode and I will not fall off the face of the earth
2) It's all about not drinking, but that doesn't mean what I thought it did
3) Life is a WE program

Honestly, when trying to quit my trigger time was right after work. So the first few weeks/months of sobriety, I cleared out my wallet of cash, checks, credit cards and made it very difficult on myself to have the means to buy. I also had to take an alternative route home for awhile as my damn car seemed to be on auto-pilot to the closest convienance store. A lot of what was uncomfortable but helped me was changing my routine, like I said uncomfortable, strange but with time it becomes easier. If you have support, and your getting the urge call someone, make another plan, change your thinking to "ah just one" "I'll keep it on the down low" "WTF I'm not that bad of a person" "Afterall it's my only vice" "Damn work/family/kids is stressing me" "Oh it would be nice to unwind" "Oh what the hell I'm a drunk anyway" "One last hurrah", to "Just for today I will not drink, I CAN do this".... be strong.

My top three--
1) Tell on myself. If I get to feeling antsy, I need to talk to someone.
2) Pray. Just the simple act of concentrating on a little prayed can help me get out of a bad situation. Not always easy to remember, but gets better with practice.
3) Go to meetings--lots of meetings. Especially when I don't really want to go.

Ok
Here's mine
1) Be around sober people via my home meeting
2) Tell myself that just for today, I will not drink
3) Remember all of the positive changes that I have seen since I stopped drinking
