...I thought what if we destroy the big book and start again...
...which got me excited...
...then I felt guilty...
...but wouldnt it be cool...?
.....if we could all just try and find our own way...then come back in ten years time...and pool together all the things we found useful? That would be revelotionary.
Sadly, I fear the drink to much, will go to a meeting tonight....
...so I got down on my knees, confessed my sins, and fell asleep.

Once upon a time I had a lot of reservations and a few resentments against the big book. The patriarchical, sexist, out dated language, the story title "Women Suffer, Too" (no sh#t!), etc.
Surrender into a place of complete willingness was, I think, what got me past my own judgements. Today I am grateful for the BB because it is a step-by-step text book that shows me how to live - not just w/o alcohol and drugs, but live real life in all of it's various colors and shades. I didn't know how to do all (any?) of this and the book and people in recovery showed me how. I am grateful that I didn't have to learn for myself or make many of the mistakes that others before me have made. If I'd had to re-invent this particular wheel, I know for sure that I wouldn't just be still out there, I'd be dead.
Having others that are a few steps or a few miles ahead of me on the recovery path turn around and offer their helping hands, encouragement, wisdom, love and support is what saved my life and is what is still saving my a$$ today.

I say this a lot on here, Page 449 in the 3rd edition. Once I grasped that concept, I was able to deal with life a lot easier. I do believe in the words "keep it simple"
I do like the fact that, they updated the stories in the 4th edition. I still like the Wizard of Oz and it seems dated after all these years but, that and the big book are classics. We learn from what has gone before us and we teach the next generation what we've learned.
