Nine Essential Truths
I was just introduced to Laura McKowen’s Nine Essential Truths
(to get you through sobriety and everything else):
1. It is not your fault.
2. It is your responsibility.
3. It is unfair that this is your thing.
4. This is your thing.
5. This will never stop being your thing until you face it.
6. You cannot do it alone.
7. Only you can do it.
8. You are loved.
9. Life will never stop reminding you of these things.
So good!
Here on SR we all cycle through different stages of these truths. Sometimes I get stuck in 3. Sometimes I feel completely overwhelmed by 5, until I remember 6! Some days I have thoughts in the 1 zone. Getting out of 1 and into 2 is like exercising - hard but good for me.
8 is my constant song.
These lessons are given to me on REPEAT, throughout my life. Not just when it comes to addiction, but also sickness, betrayal, heartbreak, grief, anxiety, and trials of all types.
I found this very helpful and thought-provoking. Perhaps others here can benefit from McKowen’s work, too!

Thank you TC! I found Laura McKowen's book, We Are the Luckiest very thought provoking. I think it was in this book that she remarked on speaking to her AA sponsor, that her sponsor said she( sponsor) had a "nice little life". That sounds like bliss to me. I don't need bells and whistles and big adventures. I would be content with relative calm and self respect moving forward.
