Day 1
Welcome Kenneth!
When I finally began to look at it as something to get free from, that's when everything changed. I had been clinging to it for so many years - as if it was a friend that was helping me cope. In the end, it was destroying my soul & turning me into someone I didn't even recognize. I'm so glad you've made this decision. We're with you.

1st win of Day 1
Thanks for all the kind words of support. 1st win of day one. Today is the 1st time i am in a airport sober ( flying for Crete to Dublin) . I am not worrying about the number of drinks i can consume before the flight .
This concept is so key to my getting and keeping sobriety. Goodatcha! Glad you have joined us.
I am always amazed at how much more mental free time I have in sobriety now that mind doesn't have to obsess and plan about alcohol. How much can I drink right now without having too many? When can I have the next one? Do I have enough? Will I able to drink when I there? What time do the stores close? And on and on...

Welcome, Kenneth!
I've had a lot of Day Ones, a few of which led to fairly long periods of sobriety (over a year). I'm just a few days ahead of you at Day Six which I'm hoping will be the last Day Six ever. Just in case you falter, don't be afraid to come back here. There's no shame in it. We've all done it. Of course I'm hoping you don't falter, but these first few days are rough.
This forum has helped me a lot. I make a point of checking in here every single day, and posting at around the time I'd normally have my first drink has been a powerful distraction and reinforcement.
Good luck, man! You can do this!
