1 week

Normally I wouldn't post and be excited about a week as to me it is no big deal but I think that could be my problem. I don't celebrate my sober milestones like I should. I am literally saving my life one day at a time. 1 week ago today I was sick and thought I was dying (for maybe the 1000th time? :/

1 week whoo hoo!

One week is great. and you should celebrate sobriety. Just don't do it by drinking.

Wonderful news, Maximus!

The celebration comes in how darn GOOD we feel that we can do hard things…….

One week is great! Mine was pretty rough, but I had made my decision, or I was going to die. I hope your transition into sobriety goes smoothly. You are right, you will lose everything if you don't take this seriously. You will lose your health which you cannot replace.

I remember those horrific hang-overs. The kind where my vision was dark in the periphery, kind of like tunnel vision. I remember my eyes being blurry no matter what I did, and the feeling of nausea so strong that suicide sounded like a good choice. I remember forcing down another drink in that condition, while gagging and sometimes barfing it right back up, but I would do it again and again, until I had enough poison in me to numb the pain. I couldn't brush my teeth without gagging -horrible! I was so sick one morning that I sincerely considered peeing in the bed and just rolling over to the other side rather than get up and use the toilet. I remember not showering for 4 or 5 days at a time -yuck. I still have a long way to go at 224 days, but I really do feel that the worst is behind me.

Have a look/listen to Alcohol Explained, by William Porter, it helped me immensely.

Take care, you can do this.
-Max
