One Year
Today is one year since I quit drinking. It wasn’t the first time I quit, but I intend to make it the last. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been the best thing ever for me. This forum has been so helpful for me to read when I’ve felt like I’m missing out, the beginnings of a craving, so that I can remember all the things alcohol was holding me back from. I’ve got physically and mentally healthier and stronger, been able to reflect more honestly on myself and my needs and haven’t lost days to drinking, recovering, and bouts of shame and depression. I’ve had non-alcohol related challenges that I managed to navigate without falling into old habits and learned some better stress coping tools. I’ve probably not gone a whole year without drinking since I was 14, nearly 20 years ago. All in all, it’s been awesome and I’m so grateful to all of you for sharing, for being open and vulnerable and reminding us all that we’re not alone, and for continuing to push through your own challenges. Thank you all.
Congratulations KeepingUp, one year is a fantastic achievement. Thank you for sharing and don't be a stranger - you can help others more than you know just by posting here. May your 2020 be even better.
Congratulations on one year, that’s a huge accomplishment! I remember being very emotional when I hit the one year mark, and I felt like I could do anything, I hope you feel that way too.
Looking forward to following your year two journey!
