Can you stand a little Manilow?

Just heard his New Year's Eve song on the car radio. The crazy thing is, I remember the words from circa 1980.

Don't look so sad
It's not so bad, you know
It's just another night
That's all it is.
It's not the first
It's not the worst you know.
We've come through all the rest
We'll get through this.

We've made mistakes
But we've made good friends too.
Remember all the nights
We spent with them.
And all our plans
Who says they can't come true?
Tonight's another chance
To start again.

It's just another New Year's Eve.
Another night like all the rest.
It's just another New Year's Eve.
Let's make it the best.
It's just another New Year's Eve.
Just another Auld Lang Syne.
And when we're through this New Year
You'll see.
We'll be just fine.

Barry who? Thanks for posting the lyrics. I'm pretty sure my car radio would short out if that voice were played. Happy New Year!! I wish you the best!

I will share this truth only with you, my friends here on Sober Recovery.

I too am a closeted Barry Manilow fan since I was a pre teen.

Yes, THAT long.

I sometimes youtube Barry when it strikes my fancy to do so, and the shame is lessening lol

He sang some beautiful songs

Edit: I just wish he'd stop pumping his face fulls of fillers. He's looking more and more like a chipmunk.

Funny story about him.

This was back in the 80's

I had left work early one day and was on 5th Ave. on my way to the subway and there was Barry doing the tourist thing with his camera.

Dont know why because he is a New Yorker, but anyway I looked at him and he looked at me and appeared to get ready to take off thinking I was going to go completely nuts.

If anyone knows New Yorkers, we stop for NO ONE, especially when we're trying to catch a train.

He looked shocked when I just kept walking.

Sorry Barry.

I was never a fan of a guy or gal belting out what could pass as Broadway Show tune. Come to think of it I'm not really a fan of Broadway. But if you were around back then, you only needed to hear him a few times, and his voice would be embedded in your brain forever. I never turned him off. His voice had a unique "Don't touch that dial" quality that was way more authoritative than Wolf Blitzer saying, "Stay tuned. We will have more on this important story after 17 commercials, and 35 other stories that actually have some merit, but we will be sure to repeat our story in the next hour." All Barry had to do was sing, and I wasn't going anywhere.

"If you think about it, Foul Play might be the most '80s-ish movie made in the 1970s. The comedy-mystery-thriller starred Goldie Hawn, Chevy Chase and Dudley Moore and stood as one of the truly clever homages to the work of Alfred Hitchcock. (Watch the trailer and see for yourself!)

Released 40 years ago on July 14, 1978, Foul Play tells the story of a divorced librarian (Hawn) who is pulled into adventure when a stranger hides a roll of film in a pack of cigarettes that he slips her. Mayhem and mistaken intentions ensue.

The film's theme song – Ready to Take a Chance Again – was a huge hit and was nominated for an Oscar for best song. It was sung by Barry Manilow, whose other soundtrack contribution to the movie was Copacabana. Okay, so maybe it's really a '70s movie after all."

Can I throw in a 1970's hit song from Earth, Wind & Fire?

Sing A Song

When you feel down and out
Sing a song (it'll make your day)
For you, it's the time to shout
Sing a song (it'll make a way)
Sometimes it's hard to care
Sing a song (it'll make your day)
A smile so hard to bear
Sing a song (it'll make a way)
