Just For Today-Grace

STEP ELEVEN: Sought through prayer and meditation
to improve our conscious contact with God as we
understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His
will for us and the power to carry that out.

"'Lord, make me a channel of thy peace --
that where there is hatred, I may bring love -
that where there is wrong, I may bring the
spirit of forgiveness -
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony -
that where there is error, I may bring truth -
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith -
that where there is despair, I may bring hope -
that where there are shadows, I may bring light -
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort
than to be comforted -
to understand, than to be understood -
to love, than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life.
Amen.'
"As though lying on a sunlit beach, let us
relax and breathe deeply of the spiritual
atmosphere with which the grace of this prayer
surrounds us."

c. 1952, Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions,
pages 99-100

:hello2

Good evening Time2surrender,
That is so true.
I know for me having a higher power which I choose to call god.
Is essential to sobriety. Being able to let go and let god was a big one for me. The treatment center where I graduated from is where I got my concious contact with god. It has really helped me to maintain some balance in my life, And believe it or not I go back to that same treatment center every sunday to speak at there spirituality group. You also have to give back what you got. It is really nice to watch the faces on people as they see somebody who comes back to where they are know and to give them hope that people can and do make it as long as you are willing to work for it.

I wish I would have found this site sooner.. But Iam here now and will stay here...

The one thing I that has really stuck with me is:

YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT BACK.

That was one of the things I wasn't doing When after seven years of sobriety
I made a very bad decison to go out.
I had convinced myself after all that time that I didn't need to do the work
I thought I was cured. "Not" Ya see I was an alcholic before and I convinced myself that me going out and doing crack was not a problem.. as long as I didn't drink............... Well to make a long story short For 2 ugly years I remained addicted to crack... Lost everything... It is amazing to me how truly cunning and baffling this disease is, that I thought I could handle it..
You have to find a balance in life or you will reep what you so....
