Eight Days Sober
Eight Days Sober
Well, today is my eighth day sober. A week ago today I was going through horrible withdrawals that lasted four days. I never want to be in that situation again.
So far I've been able to not pick up a drink on my own, but I feel I could really use the support of AA. I plan on attanding my first meeting this week, now that I actually feel able to face people again.
I've been a heavy drinker for 25 years, and suffer from a severe anxiety disorder as well as bipolar disorder. I was using alcohol to self-medicate myself, but of course it turned into an addiction. I've made solemn vows to stop drinking a thousand times, but this time, I feel ready for change.
I really appreciate you all sharing your experiences and support here, it's meant allot to me.
I'll keep you all posted as to my progress.
Thanks,
Thorn

All the best to you, Thorn, and congratulations on eight days. That's just awesome. Keep up the good work; get to a meeting, and I will try to, too. We're all in this together, one day at a time.

((((Thorn))))
I am so glad you are going to a meeting this week! I can't recommend meetings enough. There you will find people who understand what you are going through and can help you learn to live life sober. Good for you!
It took me too long to realize that I cannot do this alone. The support and fellowship of SR and AA have been carrying me when I couldn't walk. First I crawled and now I am taking baby steps. Every day we don't drink or use is a step forward to a new and much, much, MUCH better life.
Keep doing what you are doing and never hesitate to reach out. Let us know how the meeting goes, OK?
