These are fantastic days and you should enjoy them. Remember them when the world decides to crash through that buzz and ruin your day, the memory of that feeling is the first thing I turn to when dealing with stress in sobriety.

Yes. And clarity, peace and self-confidence aren't too shabby either right?

I do my best to enjoy those days and also use them to work on getting stronger for when the sh*t hits the fan...I think it is possible to do both

I'll share my secret for those who want to get high as a kite.

Sometimes there are days where I just don't feel like going to the gym for whatever reason. After I change into my workout clothes I'll think about how desperate I was right before I became sober. How I contemplated suicide because I thought I was doomed to be a worthless alcoholic and there didn't seem to be a way out.

Those are the days where I'm on fire in the gym. After my workout it's not just the endorphin rush that lifts me up. It's the knowledge that I'm a better man than I was an hour prior. The knowledge that the sweat I poured has made my sobriety even stronger.

That is a high that no drug can ever touch.

When you get my age, 69 in 30 days, you realize how, "Petty and unimportant," getting drunk is compared to the grand scheme of things or what is really important in life. When I was younger I lived to get drunk every chance I could. I had a high IQ but a low EQ aka Emotional IQ. EQ is making your emotions work for you instead of against you. Addictions always serve an emotional purpose and that purpose it to regain control over circumstances perceived to be overwhelming. Reasons for drinking are driven by emotional factors, usually feelings of helplessness (about whatever in my life makes me feel overwhelmingly trapped).
