Neglecting dental care.

It's been so long since I visited a dentist, I fear I may be experiencing issues and not know it. I have no benefits/money to pay for a visit. 10 years of neglect due to my alcoholism is catching up. When drinking, I am not brushing my teeth as regularly as I should, if at all. Especially at night. I think I have gingivitis due to bleeding gums when I brush now.

Anyone with experince as far as dental problems arising from drinking/neglect?

Yeah my teeth were bad too.

Not sure if this is an option wherever you are, but I got a lot of my work done through a dental school where students get practical experience - qualified dentists look over the work.

Took a few years to get everything done but everything is fine now.

I had a really painful gum infection when drinking. I think Dee's idea is a good one. I have heard of going to the hospital for getting teeth removed/infections, but not sure if they will help you out. Also some dentists are cheaper than others. I'd think you just need to see a hygienist for a good cleaning at this point.

Our local community college offers free cleanings for the dental hygienist students to get practice and meet their requirements. Might be something to look into.

Yeah, I had gum disease and even though I brushed every day I would regulary black out and not do any evening hygiene stuff. Rarely flossed due to how much my gums would bleed. Good news is that after I quit drinking my oral health improved really fast and now I don’t even mind the dentist. 😊
