A day of "instead ofs"

I'm only on day 3 but yesterday was the best day mentally I have had in over a year and it is the first time I've been sober 2 days in a row since December of 2016.

I woke up feeling proud instead of feeling guilty.
I had 3 cups of coffee instead of 5.
I got dressed instead of staying in my PJs all day.
I sat outside in the sun instead of taking my first drink of the day.
I took my daughter shopping instead of not even offering because I was too drunk to drive.
I ate dinner instead of drinking it.
I took a bubble bath in the master bedroom instead of a shower in the basement where I was always able to secretly have a few drinks while showering.
I went to bed when my husband did instead of making an excuse to stay up later so I could have more drinks.
I went to bed sober instead of spinning.

Have a great day everyone! I wonder what my I'll do today instead of drinking. I'm excited to find out.

I need to add one more.

This week my work is auctioning off baskets of goodies for charity.

I put bids on trips, gift cards and fall decorations instead of baskets full of liquor and brewery tour tickets.

How wonderful, Hillhiker! I'm so happy for your new life. Day 3 is when I started to come out of the fog too.

It's incredible what we do to ourselves. How can we think we're enhancing our lives by getting numb & reckless? Yet I did it for 30 yrs.

Congratulations.

May I surmise that from your user name you like to hike? If so, think of all of the great places you can explore sober. (If you're not a hiker, take that as a metaphor!) I'm on Day 4, and I DO love to hike. Yet it's been years since I was really out in the woods, I've gotten so out of shape from my drinking. I'm so looking forward to getting that back.

Congrats on Day 3.

Pinnacle you are right. I love, love, love to hike but have allowed myself to get so out of shape that I can't even enjoy it right now. I'm not overweight but my muscles are so weak that attacking a 6+ mile course seems impossible. I made that my username to remind myself of how I used to be and how I want to be now.

My poor husband asks me to go hiking all of the time and I almost always say no or if I say yes I tell him I'll go for just a half hour or so. Like you, I'm so looking forward to the day that we just hit the trails again without a time limit.

Congrats to you on your day4!!!
