Sober family

We got back from a family reunion this weekend. Two of my relatives are no longer drinking. One has been sober for 10years after two DUIs, the other a few months now. We did not talk much about our sobriety but there was this knowing feeling from the expressions on our faces that we all share this common bond. It was very special. It was very cool to see how much those of us no longer using have grown. There were other family members still drinking, some heavily and for some it’s escalated and it looks like there’s a problem now. I can see the physical toll that years of heavy drinking (in one case combined with meth) has taken, and these folks lives are in disarray. It made me sad. But I am so grateful for all the sober people. Seeing how great everyone is doing even in the face of life’s challenges, was validation that I am continuing to choose the right path.
