Is it ok?
Me and my better half went to our first parents evening.
When we arrived we were greeted with wine and bottles beer and fruity water.
I had a fleeting thought that it wasn’t right spending the money we pay for child care on booze but didn’t make it an issue.
A week later I was discussing it with my sister and she thought it was inappropriate to have booze at a parents evening.
Still trying not to make an issue of it. Just getting it off my chest.
Any thoughts?

I think it depends on the type of evening, school, parental audience (not to mention decision-makers' personal proclivities).....I think it would not fit at the public school level - not just bc it's taxpayer money funding them whether our kids attend or not- and it isn't done in the county where my husband is Chief Academic Officer (second from the top which is Superintendent)....but it wouldn't surprise me these days if alcohol was served at (some) private school events.
I'd bet, though, that non-alcoholic parents largely didn't register it like you did - and I'd probably comment to my (also in recovery) husband if I did see it a a school function (whichever kind).
But ultimately....not my circus, not my monkeys.

Doesn't seem like anything inappropriate to me. So many parental events, from kids bdays to recitals, seem to have alcohol these days. Way I figure it is most parents aren't like me and can take it or leave it without getting in the kind of trouble I used to.

So I just asked my husband about this and he agreed that - at least in his county- it would not be done. He also elaborated that he's had to really wrestle with some parents who wanted things like an open bar at end of the year honors/whatever type things. Explaining that it was not about them but about their kids was apparently a minor skirmish!

Mark me down for weird at a school function.
Yes, I am a hockey, soccer and dance mom and we have bottle drives and baskets of booze raffles, wine and paint nights, but so far, it hasn't stretched to the schools. I wouldn't be comfortable, drinking or sober with it at the school level.
Even when I was drinking we were the babysitters for tournaments and competitions LOL, the rest of the parents partied where they partied, we had the dry room.

But I’m biased.
It’s each parents decision weather or not they look after their kid under the influence.

Thanks.

I agree re hipster. Been to two 1 year old bdays recently with mimosas before lunch. My feeling is that if it makes the other parents more social and enjoy themselves then good for them.

I’ve drunk all my share up too quickly.
Makes me anti/over social and not enjoy myself.
It’s for them to figure out how much is too much.
