He just called
A few days ago, I posted for the first time here. My brother had been drinking, smoking, not eating a morsel, for more than two weeks. I said my goodbyes and took comfort in the support I found here.
Well, he just called. Sober, making dinner, at the end of a brutal detox all by himself. I'm so relieved that he's going to be around a little while longer, and so VERY GRATEFUL to have found this community, because I know the roller coaster will continue.
Peace to all of you who are fighting your own battles tonight.

nesister, I wonder whether you and his son deciding you'd let him go this time contributed to his turnaround. The penny may have dropped that nobody was going to rescue him this time.
I hope it lasts.

Definitely managing my expectations. I can tell that this is not some miracle turnaround, but I am still grateful that he pulled himself out of it for now. I will not be surprised when he starts again, but every sober day is a gift!
