Keep posting and start to talk about it. Very supportive and helpful people here who DO understand. You are not alone, believe me.

I have been sober since May 2017 and even though difficult to begin the rewards are great. No promises, but you might even get your girlfriend back if she can see you are really committed to sobriety and a real life.

Everyone left me, or I left them. It was the kindest most helpful thing they could have done.

When I got sober, not everyone came back. But they didn't need to. I had learned my sobriety was not reliant on what anyone else did. I could recover regardless. I also learnt that the most enjoyable years of my existence lay ahead.

Welcome to SR👋 I'm really sorry to hear about your girlfriend. Also, not drinking over it is a really smart thing to do. Please post again when you can.

Welcome to SR. I almost lost my relationship with my fiancé if I didn't quit drinking. You may get her back, but work on you, and get sober, and post here lots, and read around... and things will fall into place. That I promise.

Welcome.. just focus on your sobriety for now and see what the future holds for the rest. You have to want to get and stay sober for yourself for it to stick,at least it is for me. I tried to quit drinking for others and it was always very short lived. I'd suggest that you check out a few open discussion AA meetings. Don't even tell your exgf about it. I'm sure she's heard the song and dance of changes before. Just my $.02.

Welcome to SR, sadandalone!

Just think: if you're willing to put some work into sobriety, one day that name won't fit you anymore. There's a lot of great support and information here to help you do that.
