Back again...first time in over two years...

Hey everyone (again),

Back after over 2.5 years (I think the last time I posted was in December 2014) – when I managed a five month abstinence from the booze.

Back then, this forum was an indispensable source of support, advice and comradery whilst battling the weekend urges and keeping me focused.

Alas, things changed and I started drinking heavily again. Holding down a job and drinking half the week; whilst spending the other half hungover is an expensive, unpleasant and nerve-wracking balance.

My wake up call was two things:

1. Being diagnosed with acute gastritis as a result of my excessive drinking.

2. Finding myself 2 stone heavier than my pre-drinking self.

There are many other things, but these really hit home the need for a turning point.

So now I’m back again, to check-in for support, and hopefully provide support to other members.

I’m now 10 days sober and feeling significantly better…

Onwards…upwards…

Yours,

ClosetLobster

Hi closetlobster,

Congratulations on day 10 👍👍👍

I'm on day 12...I was sober for 5 months last year with the support of SR and like you I returned to drinking...I'm back 1.5 years later feeling motivated and excited about my sober life.

Wishing you well on the rest of your recovery journey x

I'm not entirely sure at the moment - all I know is I'm not really wanting to drink - I'm focused heavily on exercise and saving the money I'd usually spend on alcohol-related activities (this was between £70 - £100 a week).

I might look in to getting some sort of professional addiction support. I didn't do this a couple of years ago - maybe it's worth exploring...

Try not to drink after five months! Although, I probably need a more detailed strategy. Haha.

No urges this weekend to booze - I think the intense gym session straight after work on Friday really sets the weekend off in the right direction.

Welcome back, lobster and congratulations on 10 days. That's a good start. I would agree with the idea of seeking some sort of professional help and support. I feel like it has made all the difference in my sobriety now.

Why not have a read through Dees thread about making a plan. It's a good un.
