Smile Newly Sober...Working Through Detox

Went cold-turkey on Friday, 6/2, after 9 months of daily one-pint to a fifth of vodka. I was sick of what my life had become. Although I know self-detox is not recommended, all in all, detox has not been too bad. Days one and two were the worst. Absolutely painful, both physically and psychologically. The two longest days of my life. Those are now behind me, but I have had diarrhea now for a week. Anyone have a similar experience? I went to the doctor and all they did was modify my diet. I am following the diet strictly and drinking lots of fluids.

Welcome to the family and congrats on your first week sober!

At one week, you're likely out of the physical withdrawal, but it will still take time to get back to normal. If, after some time, you don't improve, or you get worse, then see your doctor.

Detox is hell, that's why I'll never go thru it again.

I too went cold turkey from a very significant vodka habit there at the end. What you are experiencing sounds normal to me- I went through A LOT in the early weeks and months as I was VERY sick when I quit. My whole body had to purge itself of alcohol- and after literally getting it out of my system, I would describe it as every neuron and fiber of my being effected by my years of drinking had to recharge and heal - so everything I went through to heal was a process. Not drinking was the only way to keep going so I would get through it.

My drs provided good care, and I got everything tested - liver enzymes etc were all within normal range about 100 days in when I retested them. Now at 15+ mo I am a pretty healthy, fit, happy 40 year old and that in itself is a huge miracle.

Keep going. It gets better the longer you are sober.

Hi and welcome rhsocal1226

If the Drs put you on a diet it make sense to give that a little time to work.
If you're concerned about it, you could always get a second opinion tho?
