Day1. Cold turkey
As many of you know I've been trying to quit in an endless cycle of day 1s. The last few months I don't drink for days and binge once a week. I started reading about kindling, withdrawals and seizures and it scared the **** out of me. So I decided to do a taper which you can guess where that got me- drinking every night for last 4 nights. Last night was the worst -2 bottles of wine. So today I'm just going to stop cold turkey and hope for the best. I've never had alcohol withdrawl symptoms before except for a slight hand tremor on one occasion so I guess the odds are in my favour besides this being the hundredth time I've tried to quit.
I wouldn't worry about seizures if your withdrawals in the past have been mild.
The good thing is, as an Aussie, you can get to an ER, or depending on where you are, call an ambulance free of charge, for help, SN.

Ok Dee, now I'm worried. If I have no other withdrawl symptoms. I'm assuming my risk of a seizure is low
I'm sorry SN.
No offence to Steve either but I can't let remarks like that pass because I detoxed hundreds of times ok, but the last one was a doozy...
Look, the majority of folks here have had no detox problem.
You've tried tapering and that didn't work.
You've seen your Dr., right? They gave you meds.
Outside of being an inpatient, cold turkey is the only thing left.
There's an element of risk, but I reckon there's an even greater one in continuing to drink.
Wishing you the best - the odds are overwhelmingly in your favour

SN- you posted you were last night. Remember HALTS and see a doctor about w/d's if worried. What will you do to stop the wash/repeat of relapse? Small stuff- at that moment stuff- like walk, breathe, write, share here- b4- not after. AA meetings, as often as poss- who cares if we all do not do god, or higher power? It is decades/hundreds of years of alcohol narratives in 1 room. Add 'psychologist' or consultant to that and it would be very expensive. Also gets me out of my own head space, I socialise and learn new skills.
Support to you.

Make sure you stay well hydrated. I don't know if you have Gatorade in Australia but any sport drink/ electrolytes drink will do.
99% chance it won't happen but just in case you start seeing or hearing things, call for help.
The first 3 days are the most difficult and be careful around day 5, that's when people start feeling much better and the AV tells them a drink, just one won't hurt. Of course, it never work out well.
Have you formulated a plan yet?
You can do it

My thoughts are with you Sober Nunn. I did exactly what you did 18 days ago. I was petrified pretty much 24/7 for the first 7 days. Taking my pulse all the time and just drinking copious amounts of water. It was hell. Please keep an eye on your symptoms and get help if you need it. And most of all pleased dont put yourself through this any more. Last time yes?
Take care and keep posting ❤❤❤
