I am tapering off today......I have one drink left. I was sober all week, so I know the DT's won't be that bad. However, the urges are the problem!

Let's make May 1st our stopping point...forever!!

Sun,

Wanting to quit is half the battle. We have thrown our hat in the ring.

You seem to know what to expect.

Post here for support.

Each time someone comments it kicks the post to the front so others might see it.

Stay clean.

Thanks.

Thanks for posting-knowing that it´s a real problem is truly important.

I found AA meetings near me and called a hotline for help. There are resources such as SMART Recovery, too, but if you´re proactive you´ll figure it out!

Best of luck!

Since you've had many seizures in the past, you really need to talk to your dr about the safest way for you to stop drinking.

In general, tapering is almost impossible for alcoholics. Most of us here have tried and failed, and I usually ended up in a worse situation. However, if your dr gives you a plan to taper due to your seizures, and he is following your progress, then you should follow it.

Welcome to the family. I too suggest asking your doctor for help in getting safely thru detox.

Welcome Sunrize
What you want most is no more seizures.

You may be to get some medical advice at places like this?

There are a lot of free or low cost clinics around - if there's one in your local area you might get some medical advice there?

Free/Low-Cost/Sliding Scale Clinics | NeedyMeds
The 14522 clinics clinics in this database are free, low cost, low cost with a sliding scale based on income, or offer some type of financial assistance.

Welcome, Sunrize. SR is a wonderful place for support and advice and I'm glad you are here. I didn't have insurance either but went to a detox run by our county; it was low-cost, sliding scale and I was treated with compassion and dignity. I did have a seizure while I was there and spent a week in hospital before heading to rehab. It could have been disastrous had I tried to do this by myself. I wish you all the best and I am praying for you.
