Hi Paula,

I am also struggling with anxiety, and am starting to loose everything. I hope that we can do this together!

Blessings

Welcome! You will find a lot of support here.
Alcohol produces anxiety. It takes a little bit for your system to calm down once the alcohol has been removed. If you add alcohol to an already anxious state it just creates a non stop anxiety ridden life.

Coming from someone who has suffered from anxiety.

Hi Paula...welcome to SR.

We all know how you feel. Like you, I lost a lot of friends and embarrassed myself regularly because of drinking. My anxiety was out of control. Some days I could barely get out of bed.

As many have said, the anxiety is ramped up because of the alcohol. Once I stopped drinking, it was only a matter of days before the anxiety subsided and I began to have hope again.

This site will provide you with a plethora of support and information to get your life back. Take a look around, post, explore all of the information and you will see what I mean.

I look forward to getting to know you better. Good luck and let us know how you're doing.

Welcome aboard Paula. Most of us have similar stories - alcohol took everything from me, jobs, friends, family, almost my life. Anxiety can be tough early on (although goes away), but you will find a lot of support here. All of us have been where you are at one point.

Welcome to SR. So many people use alcohol to alleviate anxiety when in reality it exacerbates the problem. I never had anxiety issues until I started binge drinking. Then I had extreme anxiety. If you quit, I think you will experience a reduction in anxiety.

Hi Paula

Glad you found us.
When I first gave up drinking, I spent a lot of time here at the start.
I have been stopped over 5 years now, but still get homesick for here, so I drop in a couple of times a week.

I hope you find this site supportive and honest, like I do/did.

I wish you the best xx

Hi Paula, so glad you found SR! Alcohol is so cunning, baffling, powerful... I too have suffered from withdrawal related alcohol and it was difficult to deal with.. but stay strong and know that it will end if you remain sober!

I too lost jobs and friends because of alcohol. I remember a particularly bad binge where I felt so hopeless. Alcohol used to be a social activity, then it became my reason to get out of bed... It's no way to live! So glad you've made this important step

Pp,

The anxiety is caused by the booze.

You might have some natural anxiety, but...in my experience...

I was a blithering..anxious...hypertensive..wreck.

That is why folks relapse over and over.

Some need meds to quit.

You might need a dr. If you find it impossible to quit on your own.

Thanks.
