Play the tape

Good morning fellow-SRs.

In a couple of posts I've seen people mentioning 'playing the tape'.

What does that actually mean please?

Hi StartaNew, it means thinking through the entire day/night and imagining how you will if you wake up with a hangover. It really is a great strategy for getting through the craving or thought of drinking.

It's an effective tool for when you AV is trying to trick you into drinking. The AV tries to only get you to think about the "high" yet none of the consequences that come with it.
When you play the tape forward of what will happen when you drink, the hangovers, feeling like crap, barfing, shakes, sweating, shame, regret, anxiety, and more that can last for days, sometimes a week, that seems like a pretty stupid trade off.
It's like getting a loan for $5, and having to pay $5,000 back, it just doesn't make sense.
